Prashant Prabhu was born on June 19, 1972. He is a self-taught artist who actually studied commerce before switching paths. He predominantly works in watercolours and focuses on landscapes. He initially used to experiment with various medium but since 1999 watercolour has been his sole focus. His handling of such a difficult medium with dexterity is particularly impressive given his lack of formal training. He firmly believes that the artist should be known by his vision and philosophy and not by the subject or style in which he paints. His preferred method is either painting on locations or taking photographs of landscapes. His direct source of inspiration is the immediate physical world that we see around us. His style is deliberately minimalist so that more people can relate to his landscapes.
He has already participated in several solo and group exhibitions. He has exhibited his works in close to 19 solo shows, the first one being at the ANZ Grindlays Bank Gallery in the year 1993. He also participated in the ‘Tsunami Relief Show’ in 2005 organized by the National Gallery of Modern Art and Gallery Beyond in Mumbai. In the year 2003, he was honoured with the Maharashtra State Award. In 2009 he was in the top ten finalists in a worldwide competition of the International artist magazine for the landscape genre. He is making his presence felt internationally and recently participated in the Royal Watercolour competition, London in 2016. The artist lives and works in Mumbai. ;
