Oky Rey Montha
Oky Rey Montha also known as Kyre is a Contemporary Indonesian artist born on January 3, 1986 in Yogyakarta. Right from childhood he was inspired by his father, who
was quite talented and artistic. This also meant that from a young age Montha was surrounded by art and literature. He graduated from the Faculty of Visual Arts, Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) with a Visual Communication Design major in 2010. Recently in 2018 he had a solo exhibition at the Cans Gallery, Jakarta titled ‘Rhythm of
Chaos’ which reflects on the current world full of conflict and chaos. Some of his other solo exhibitions include ‘Brigitta Queen’ at Galerie Cana in 2013 and ‘Kyrelogy’ at
Galerie Cana in 2011, ‘Blackpawn Conspiracy’ at Singapore Art Stage in 2014 and ‘Keep Calm and Shut Up’ at Equator Art Project, Singapore in 2014.
His works have a fantastical element, incorporating various traits from horror literature, fairy tales, pop surrealism and music. He likes to refer to himself as a pop surrealist and believes that the art that he creates on a daily basis are like cartoon illustrations. His aim is to get as many people involved in art as he can. He abhors the idea of art being limited to a selected few, and in a bid to appeal to the masses he even included a Pokémon character in his work.;
