Agatha Christie Limited Edition Writers Series Fountain Pen

The design of the Writers Edition created in honour of Agatha Christie is based on Montblanc's classic style of the early 1920s. Around the cap, made of black precious resin, winds a snake made of 925 sterling silver, which hints at the creeping tension of the author’s novels and also serves as the clip of the pen. The eyes of the snake are set with two rubies that glint bewitchingly. The head of the snake is also engraved on the rhodium-plated 18-karat gold nib. Each Agatha Christie Writers Edition pen is also decorated with the signature of the grande dame of the crime novel. The Agatha Christie was the second limited edition of Montblanc's 'Writers Series', and followed the release of the 'Hemingway'. Both have become extremely sought-after models in the ensuing decades.

A commemorative stamp is a postage stamp, often issued on a significant date such as an anniversary, to honor or commemorate a place, event, person, or object. The subject of the commemorative stamp is usually spelled out in print, unlike definitive stamps which normally depict the subject along with the denomination and country name only. Many postal services issue several commemorative stamps each year, sometimes holding first day of issue ceremonies at locations connected with the subjects. Commemorative stamps can be used alongside ordinary stamps. Unlike definitive stamps that are often reprinted and sold over a prolonged period of time for general usage, commemorative stamps are usually printed in limited quantities and sold for a much shorter period of time, usually until supplies run out.

This lot includes the full collection of Indian commemorative stamps that are all in mint condition and are unhinged. There are a total of 2,094 Indian commemorative stamps part of this collection. These are all the commemorative stamps launched by India since independence. The stamp collection dates from 1946 to 2009. The collector took over a decade to put this collection together.

Born on April 16, 1889, Charlie Chaplin rose to fame in the silent film era, making him a worldwide icon through his screen persona "The Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years as a comic, actor and film maker.

As one of Hollywood’s most prominent figures in film, his style of acting and film making was unmatched in the industry. When sound was introduced to film in the 1930's, Chaplin refused to create sound films, and continued making silent films such as "City Lights" (1931) and "Modern Times" (1936). In 1940 his film "The Great Dictator" (a film that satirized Adolf Hitler) created controversy for Chaplin, causing his popularity to decline, going so far as to label Chaplin a communist affiliate. An FBI investigation was opened against Chaplin, which forced him to leave the United States and settle in Switzerland.

In 1972 Chaplin was presented with an Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century”. His work continues to be held in high regard for some of the industry's greatest films of all time.

Wall Street is a 1987 American drama film, directed and cowritten by Oliver Stone, which stars Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Daryl Hannah and Martin Sheen. The film tells the story of Bud Fox (Sheen), a young stockbroker who becomes involved with Gordon Gekko (Douglas), a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider. Stone made the film as a tribute to his father, Lou Stone, a stockbroker during the Great Depression. The character of Gekko is said to be a composite of several people, including Owen Morrisey, Dennis Levine, Ivan Boesky, Carl Icahn, Asher Edelman, Michael Ovitz, Michael Milken, and Stone himself. The character of Sir Lawrence Wildman, meanwhile, was modeled on the prominent British financier and corporate raider Sir James Goldsmith.

The film was well received among major film critics, including Roger Ebert. Douglas won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and the film has come to be seen as the archetypal portrayal of 1980s excess, with Douglas' character memorably declaring that "greed is good.”
