Description

French Louis XV-style Kingwood, tulip wood Marquetry and gilt metalmounted veneered Bureau plat (writing table) was introduced at the beginning of the Rococo period in France. With various drawers, bronze decoration and espagnolettes (figures) to the corners, with leather writing surface. This example was made during 1720s by Charles Cressent who was noted not only as an ebeniste, but also for the quality of his bronze mounts. Cressent’s light handling of the materials can be seen in this piece.
