Born in Kerala, he completed his BFA (Painting) with First Rank from College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala University, and then completed his MFA (Painting) from College of Arts, New Delhi in 1993. He received national research grant from Lalitha Kala Academy, New Delhi in 1993 and junior fellowship from HRD Ministry, Government of India in 1997.
Among his major solo shows include ‘Projected Memories ... Fading Realities’, at ‘Arushi Arts’ New Delhi (2006) apart from exhibitions at Kashi Art Café, Kochi, Kerala (1999), Galleria Mareechika, Times House, Kochi, Kerala (1998), Lalit Kala Ackademi, Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi (1995), and Treveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi (1993). His works have formed part of several shows like ‘Self & identity’, National Gallery of Modern Art, Maldives (2006), ’Double Enders’, Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2005), ‘An ode to peace’, Art Junction, New Delhi (2005), ‘Invasions’ by ‘ASK’, New Delhi (2004), 2003 National exhibition by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, amongst others. Roy Thomas lives and works in New Delhi.
