about artist

Born in 1956 in Onkkoor, Kerala, Surendran Nair did his BFA (Painting) from College of Fine Arts, Kerala and Post Diploma (Printmaking) from M.S. University, Baroda. He has taken part in several prestigious group shows. Among his prominent shows is ‘The Bad Behaviour of Singularities’ presented by Sakshi Art Gallery at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2006), apart from other solos in galleries across India and abroad. The artist is known to explore the ideas of identity in relation with modernity and tradition, from a critical perspective. The artist also looks to decipher India's fast changing political and social landscape. He has once stated: “My work for many years has been within the framework of a self-styled project where the body of paintings becomes a testimony that chronicles my observations on the changing political and social landscape of Indian life.”
