The first edition of this work appeared in French in 1812 written by Antoine Laurent Castellan, under whose name the work is sometimes catalogued

Six volumes, each with a red morocco backed board book cover. The Volume number and title ‘Hindoostan’ engraved in gold foil on a green label on the spine of each book. Marbled paper paste down on the insides of the cover boards.

These books contain descriptions of the religions, manners, customs, trades, arts, sciences, literature and diversions of the Hindus. This miniature series based on the costumes of the world. Indian Series complete in itself.
