Subodh Gupta did his B.F.A. (Painting) from the College of Art, Patna (1983- 88). From small-town Bihar, the artist has worked his way up to achieve accolades and awards in India and internationally. Trained as a painter, he is versatile in various forms and styles, including performance art, video, sculpture and photography. Among his major solo shows are ‘Still, steal, steel’ Jack Shainman Gallery, New York (2008); ‘Hungry Gods, Arario Gallery, Beijing (2006); Jack Shainman Gallery, New York (2005); ‘I Go Home Every Single Day’ The Showroom gallery, London (2004);New Paintings and Sculptures, Nature Morte, New Delhi (2003); Recent works, Nature Morte at Lokayata, New Delhi (2000), and Recent works, Gallery FIA, Amsterdam (1999). His work invariably draws center stage at international art fairs, auctions and events. The theme of migration and the lost sense of home and place resulting in frictions amidst a rapidly globalizing society features in his work.This internationally acclaimed artist lives and works in New Delhi.
