about artist

Born in 1954 in Bombay, Anish Kapoor is most certainly one of the most influential sculptors of his generation. After moving to London in the 1970’s to study, he stayed on to pursue his art. Earlier works were more abstract and organic being made of more natural materials like granite, limestone, pigment and plaster, with an eventual graduation to sculptures of rich colours, sensuously refined surface and illusionistic visual dimensions. His work destabilizes assumptions about the physical world, which demands a thought invoking appreciation of the manner in which he blurs the boundaries between architecture, design and art. Examples of these can be seen in the Cloud Gate, a 110 ton stainless steel structure created in Chicago and the Sky Mirror, a 35 foot diameter concave mirror shown at Rockefeller Center, New York.
