about artist

Tayeba Begum Lipi is a Bangladeshi artist and is also the co-founder of the Britto Arts Trust. Born in the year 1969, her works include paintings, prints, videos and installations that revolve strongly around the themes of female marginality and the female body. Her sculptural works include re-creating everyday objects that range from strollers, wheelchairs to unusual materials like razors and safety pins. A lot of her works and their components address the violence that women in Bangladesh face and their plight. Works such as her 2015 piece ‘Miles after Miles’ are clear examples of the same.

She lives and works in Dhaka.
