about artist

Raghava was born in 1980 in Bangalore. He is a multi-disciplinary artist, working in genres as contrasting as painting, film, installation, multimedia and performance. He began his career as a cartoonist in 1997 working with leading Indian publications. His work conceptually grapples with the construct of identity, gender and sexuality, and the absence of interpersonal context in today's world of online identity performance. He often collaborates with other artists, including Erykah Badu, Paul Simon, and Yann Vasnier, a FIFA Award winning perfumer. In 2010, Raghava spoke at the TED Conference in Long Beach. He has lectured at New York University and at several art institutions, including New Hampshire Institute of Art, USA and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, France. In 2007, he was invited as a guest of the city of Nîmes to exhibit his work at the Carre d'Art Musee d'Art Contemporain. Raghava's performance art piece Anthropomorphism: When Paintings Dance was premiered in California in 2005 through a grant from the American India Foundation. His public art installations include a library for the Robin Hood Foundation in the Bronx, NY. He has exhibited widely around the USA. He has recently launched an iPad application to inspire early creativity in children. He lives and works between New York and India.
