Abhay Sehgal
Abhay Sehgal is a contemporary Indian artist based in New Delhi, known for his surrealist interpretations of Indian culture, psychology, and identity. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA, 2020), Sehgal has emerged as a leading voice among a new generation of Indian artists who blend fine art practice with digital fluency and cross-disciplinary experimentation.
Abhay Sehgal’s work explores themes of memory, belonging, fear, and fantasy through vibrant, dreamlike compositions that merge mythology, pop culture, and everyday observations. His practice spans painting, illustration, and animation, often rendered in a bold, graphic visual language that bridges traditional surrealism with contemporary visual culture.
Since returning to India, Abhay Sehgal has staged solo exhibitions including Add To Cart (Method Gallery, Mumbai, 2022) and Roots & Rebellion (Bikaner House, New Delhi, 2025), and has participated in group shows and art fairs such as World Art Dubai (2024), Other Art Fair Brooklyn (2025), and Contemporary Signatures (Pune, 2025). He has also undertaken high-profile collaborations with global brands including Prada, Coca-Cola, and Tata Cliq, and founded the clothing label CodeBrwn to extend his art into wearable formats.
Abhay Sehgal’s visual language blends dreamlike compositions with themes of human perception, subconscious fear, digital culture, and Indian heritage. Drawing inspiration from figures such as Salvador Dalí and Raja Ravi Varma, his work frequently centers on female protagonists and intricate narrative scenes that bridge personal experience with cultural motifs. Beyond canvas, Sehgal has expanded his practice across multi-medium installations, commercial collaborations, and contemporary streetwear as the founder of the label CODE BRWN.
