Adeela Suleman
Born in 1970 in Karachi, Pakistan, Adeela Suleman is a contemporary Pakistani sculptor She is known for her works investigating social and political commentary in contemporary Pakistani culture She draws her inspiration from the filigree tradition of Islamic art and recurrently uses motifs such as flowers or birds to weave patterns that carry a symbolic meaning Her art practice also involves experimentation with found objects which she renders into sculpture forms
She received a Master of Arts degree in international relations from the University of Karachi (1995) and then returned to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture also in Karachi (1999), where she is a faculty member as well Her works have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions including including Phantoms of Asia at the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, Hanging Fire – Contemporary Art from Pakistan at The Asia Society, New York; Gallery Rohtas 2, Lahore; Canvas Gallery, Karachi; Aicon Gallery, New York; and, the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Bologna, Italy (2008)
In India, she has exhibited her creations at several prestigious venues including Devi Art Foundation and Kiran Nadar Museum of Art
