Alita Chandra
Born in 1964, in London, Alita Chandra is a self-taught artist, known for abstract expressionism style works Her renowned artist parents Avinash Chandra and Prem Lata Chandra played a huge role in shaping her artistic vision During her growing up years, Alita spent a lot of time studying their works and observing their art processes A professionally trained textile designer, her unique style evolved through time and became a means of expressing her unconscious inner life Lines, colors, and shapes instinctively evoke her emotions on her colourful canvas Through her art, she finds solace and freedom to escape from the chaos of life, both an inspiration and an expression of her thoughts and feelings The artist shares her interpretation of life through her diverse palette by utilising different shades and tones
She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her works have been exhibited widely in both India and abroad Her solo shows include “Celebrations” at Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi (2016); “Glimpses” at Shridharni Art Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, Mandi House, New Delhi (1995); and “Perceptions” at Gallery Steps, New Delhi (1990) Her works were presented at several groups shows such as the “India Art Festival”, Nehru Centre, Mumbai (2020); “Abstractions” at Galleria Ganesh, “Sublimated Forms – 3”, GK II, New Delhi (2019); "Paris International Art Fair", Monat Gallery (2022); "Art Fair", Uchaan Arts (2023); and Beyond the canvas-An Exhibition of Paperworks, Art Pilgrim gallery (2024) The artist continues to work and her works are part of various collections in the UK, USA, New Zealand, Singapore, and India
