Amitava Das
Amitava was born in 1947 in Delhi He graduated from the College of Art, New Delhi in 1972 After which he was appointed as a lecturer at the Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi in 1974 He received a Fellowship from the Federal Republic of Germany for graphic design in 1989 His works comment on the world around him and the artist’s personal life “My works is based on human situations, where man is both the creator and the destroyer It is an ongoing process” claims Das He uses his artworks as a language to response to all that happens around him, political or cultural The inner struggles of man and the barbarianism of his materialistic culture are portrayed through his canvasses His recent works depict the violence of modern times He uses various mediums from watercolours, oils and pastels Since his first solo exhibition in 1969, he has participated in several shows nationally and internationally
