Born in 1983, Indian artist Ananta Mandal is an expressive and imaginative painter, best known for his urban landscapes He completed his graduation from the Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta University, Kolkata in 2007  His oeuvre frequently reflects cultural narratives and personal experiences, using vibrant colours and intricate details to engage viewers 

Most of his paintings are created in impressionist and surrealist styles across mediums like watercolour, acrylic, oil, and charcoal  Ananta has over time developed a highly individual style that is deeply contemporary in its sensibilities His paintings are particularly celebrated for their realistic urban landscapes, where each brushstroke encapsulates the vibrant energy of city life, dynamic figurative movements, festive atmospheres, seascapes, tranquil lakes, and the nostalgia of vintage steam trains His art also explores the tropical desert and the diverse moods of nature, capturing fluid moments with remarkable brilliance In addition to his urban themes, he has also gained recognition for his surrealistic paintings further showcasing his imaginative prowess

Ananta has held regular one man shows of his works since his college time His first solo exhibition was held at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (2004) His works have been recognised with excellent honours including Award for the Best Watercolour Painting from the Government of Bengal in 2005, the First Place Award from the 36th International Exhibition at the Watercolour Art Society-Houston, USA in 2013, The Winsor & Newton Excellence Award from Northwest Watercolor Society, USA in 2012, Award of Excellence from San Diego Watercolor Society, USA in 2006, Award for Best Landscape in Watercolor from The Bombay Art Society, Mumbai, in both 2006 and 2011, among others

Mandal has continuously supported being part of fundraising charity art shows in numerous NGO and charitable trusts in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Dubai, London, etc The artist's works are part of multiple public and private collections worldwide

Ananta lives and works in Mumbai
