Angela Cummins
Angela Cummings (born 1944) is an Austrian born American fine jewelry designer and master metalsmith celebrated for her sculptural forms, meticulous craftsmanship, and pioneering hardstone inlay techniques. Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, she immigrated to the United States at age three and later returned to Europe to pursue rigorous classical training. She studied art at the Art Academy in Perugia, Italy, as well as goldsmithing and gemology at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau, Germany, acquiring an exceptional command of metalwork, stone cutting, and lapidary arts.

In 1967, Angela Cummings joined Tiffany and Company as an assistant to Donald Claflin. By 1974, she achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first woman to design a collection credited under her own name at the storied luxury house, sharing that rare distinction alongside luminaries such as Jean Schlumberger and Elsa Peretti. Her tenure at Tiffany spanned through 1984, after which she established her independent brand, opening a boutique at Bergdorf Goodman across from Tiffany on Fifth Avenue and expanding her collections to premier luxury retailers across the globe.

Angela Cummings developed a distinct aesthetic language drawn almost entirely from organic nature and filtered through the quiet restraint of Japanese art. Her creations interpret leaves, feathers, petals, seashells, spiderwebs, and sea life using eighteen karat gold, platinum, and sterling silver, often combining metals with unconventional materials such as wood and horn. She is revered for her mastery of flush hardstone inlay, setting precisely cut segments of lapis lazuli, jade, coral, black jade, mother of pearl, and opal seamlessly into precious metals. Her works remain highly prized by international collectors and fine jewelry connoisseurs for their tactile textures, fluid elegance, and peerless technical execution.
