Anirban Mitra
Anirban Mitra was born in the year 1981 and completed his Master’s Degree in Fine Art, from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan in 2008 A recipient of the Pollock – Krasner Foundation Grant in 2015 The images of his paintings are composed with the formation of a collage which depict the co- existence of different realities showcasing multiple meanings which have been brought about by juxtaposition of images or signs taken from popular culture His work style is heavily inspired by the canons of post modernism which concentrates on the way the identity of images and symbols transmute when put in different contexts There is a definitive rejection of modernism’s grand narrative style and direction Instead of grand narratives he incorporates regional symbols to create his intricate paintings The artist had its debut Solo Show titled ‘Inspecting the Construction’ at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai in 2013 and had participated in multiple group shows and art fairs in India and abroad His works are part of collections such as Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas, USA; Paint Brush Diplomacy, USA & Nippon Television Network Cultural Society, Tokyo to name a few The artist lives and works in Santiniketan
