Born in 1967 in New Delhi, Anjum Singh, an accomplished artist, pursued her bachelor's degree in fine arts at Santiniketan, West Bengal, before attaining her master's degree at the College of Art, New Delhi, in 1991 Coming from a lineage of prolific artists, it was only natural for her to gravitate towards the realm of painting

Undergoing foundational training at Santiniketan provided Singh with a solid artistic background Her skills were further honed at the College of Art in New Delhi, where she successfully earned her Master's degree in Fine Arts in 1991 Subsequently, Singh expanded her artistic horizons by studying painting and printmaking at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC from 1992 to 1994 This period marked a transformative phase for her as she embraced experimentation, ultimately shaping her unique signature style

Upon her return to India, Singh underwent a significant shift in her artistic approach, simplifying the texture in her works and transitioning towards flat structures Her focus shifted to highlighting the surface, texture, and application of paint in her creations Singh acknowledged the influence of her mother's style, from whom she absorbed concepts of form and structure

Anjum Singh's paintings serve as a testament to her enchantment with vibrant hues like red, orange, yellow, and pink, dominating her canvases, occasionally punctuated by strokes of gold or brown Her unwavering passion for colours was reflected in her meticulous choice of palette, wherein she typically confined herself to pure colours, avoiding the addition of black or white, which she felt could detract from the overall composition of the work
