Arun Bose was an eminent Indian printmaker and painter whose innovative approach to printmaking established him as one of the foremost graphic artists of post-Independence India. Born in Dacca (now Dhaka, Bangladesh), Bose graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta, in 1955. He received a French Government scholarship to study at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the renowned Atelier 17, where he briefly trained under the celebrated printmaker Krishna Reddy.

Following his return to India, Bose taught at his alma mater before moving to New York in 1968 on a fellowship from the Pratt Graphics Centre. He was also awarded the prestigious John D. Rockefeller III Fund grant, after which he settled in the United States and joined the City University of New York.

Bose developed a highly individual visual language that combined technical virtuosity with poetic imagination. His compositions ranged from semi-abstract organic forms and fantastical figures to evocative depictions of Kolkata's streets, architecture and everyday life, rendered with exceptional sensitivity and craftsmanship. Though he spent much of his career abroad, memories of his homeland remained a constant source of inspiration, lending his works a distinctive sense of nostalgia and quiet lyricism.

Bose's works have been exhibited internationally and are held in important public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.
