Arun Pandit
Arun Pandit, born in 1971 in Patna, Bihar, is a contemporary Indian sculptor renowned for his bronze works that blend realism with cubist abstraction. He completed his graduation in sculpture from the College of Art and Crafts, Patna, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the College of Art, Delhi.

Arun Pandit's artistic journey began early, assisting his father in craft work after school hours, where he learned clay modelling, carving, and sculpting. This early exposure shaped his lifelong passion for three-dimensional art. His work is characterized by a unique ability to transform bronze, a hard and rugged material, into seemingly malleable forms that emerge as predominantly human figures straddling the bridge between abstraction and realism. The influence of Picasso's cubism merges seamlessly with Brancusi's fluid movement in his sculptures, while retaining the emotional depth inspired by his mentors Ramkinkar Baij and Devi Prasad Chowdhury.

A meticulous focus on patina work infuses each of Arun Pandit's sculptures with a distinct character and aura. His human and animal figures are never aggressive or dominating; instead, their delicate expressions and precise gestures exude positivity, reflecting the artist's ideology of humility and grace. Multiple hands and limbs with faces emerging from different angles reflect a multitude of actions and emotions, reminiscent of cubist sensibilities.

Pandit has received significant recognition throughout his career, including the prestigious Lalit Kala Akademi National Award for Sculpture in 2010 and the Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2018. He has also been awarded scholarships from AIFACS.

His notable public commissions include the monumental Garuda sculpture unveiled at Tirupati International Airport in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Ashoka Pillar in Bihar created in 1993. Arun Pandit has held several solo exhibitions, including Power and Pathos at Lalit Kala Akademi in 2016, and has participated in numerous group shows across India and internationally. He currently works at the Lalit Kala Akademi studio in Garhi, New Delhi.
