Ashok Ahuja, born in 1951 in New Delhi, is a Delhi-based multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, author, illustrator, and one of the early pioneers of digital art in India. His practice moves fluidly across drawing, painting, photography, computer-generated imagery, inkjet printing, animation, installation, film, and writing, guided by an interest in the relationship between space, light, memory, time, and perception.

Ahuja began engaging with digital technology well before it became common in artistic practice, acquiring his first computer in 1985 and experimenting with digital photography from 1998. In 2003, he presented his first exhibition of inkjet prints and computer animation, establishing an early and sustained engagement with digital media in India. Rather than treating technology as an end in itself, he approaches the computer, camera, image-editing software, and printer as creative tools, comparable to the traditional painter’s brush, pigment, and canvas.

His visually layered works often combine photography, drawing, text, digital manipulation, and abstraction to construct enigmatic spaces between reality and imagination. Ahuja’s imagery invites viewers to question fixed perceptions of urban architecture, nature, scale, darkness, light, and time. His practice is informed by wide-ranging interests in philosophy, literature, cognitive science, mathematics, and quantum physics, and frequently investigates the tension between order and chaos.

Alongside his visual-art practice, Ahuja is an accomplished filmmaker and writer. He has written, produced, and directed the award-winning feature films Aadharshila and Vasundhara. His solo exhibitions include Allured at Gallery Espace, New Delhi, in 2016, Navajivan Nagar in 2020, and Matrix at Seventy-Three Times Square at Gallery Espace in 2025. Through his ongoing exploration of digital and physical mediums, Ahuja continues to create contemplative works that expand the possibilities of contemporary visual expression.
