Asish Kumar Das
Born on 15 December 1976 in Barasat, Kolkata, Asish Kumar Das is a notable Indian painter and sculptor known for his unique style and contributions to contemporary art His works often explore themes of nature, culture, and human emotions, utilising a vibrant colour palette and intricate details He completed his B V A in Sculpture from Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata in 1989 and M F A in Sculpture from M S University, Vadodara, 1991 which were instrumental in shaping his artistic language
He breathes life into his sculptures which are larger than life and has created over 250 sculptures throughout his long art career Most of these sculptures reflect the effect of nature and daily life struggles He finds immense joy while working on his oil, acrylic, and watercolour works, exploring themes related to his surroundings, and political and cultural history, using intricate details to convey emotion and depth
Das has presented his works in numerous solo and group shows in India and abroad His works are included in various private collections such as the RPG Enterprises, Reliance Industries, Feroze Khan, Parmeshwar Godrej, and Amol Palekar, among others He has received several awards for his art including The Elizabeth Greenshield Award from Canada in 1991 and 1996 and the Best Student of Government College of Art & Craft Award from Dr B C Roy Memorial Committee, 1989, among others
