The ace photographer Atul Kasbekar was born on the 22nd of April 1965 in Mumbai He did not start off his career, intending to become a photographer In fact, he enrolled himself in the Institute of Chemical Technology to study chemical engineering before dropping out after the first year to pursue photography full time He went to the States to study photography at the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara and graduated top of the class in the year 1988 He has also trained and worked with renowned photographers like Dennis Gray, Ron Slenzak and so on after which he finally returned to India in 1990 His professional career in the city started when he opened his own studio ‘Negative Space’ in 1991 He was propelled to fame when he shot the famous Kingfisher calendar in the year 2003 Since then he has shot 10 editions of the Kingfisher calendar and is known for finding fresh faces for the calendar He was also the first Indian to win the International Food and Beverage Creative Excellence Award in the year 2005 for his work on the Kingfisher calendar Kasbekar has also made his foray into Bollywood as a producer, one example being the biopic Neerja Atul Kasbekar is still at the top of his game and thriving with multiple upcoming projects and managing his company Bling!
