Barun Chowdhury studied painting at The Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata University. He completed the M.F.A. in Graphics from the M.S. University of Baroda in 1999. He has participated in several art camps art workshops like in 2007 Watercolour camp, a meeting of Indian and British Artists in Aurangabad organized jointly by the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and the Institute of Contemporary Indian Art (ICSA), RPG camp, HCG Art camp,J W Marriott camp in Mumbai.

His works feature in several collections in India and internationally such as Ecole De Beaux, Sylvain Richard (Paris),Glasgow, London, Zurich in Switzerland Kanagowa Prefectural Art Gallery (Japan), R.P.G and ICIA collection, S J Art Gallery at Se-Jong city in Korea and many in private collection. The artist is particularly known for his mastery over printmaking. He has received a Commonwealth Art & Craft award for study, travel to,work in and mounting exhibitions in the UK.He also received a scholarship from the Charles Wallace India Trust, to visite Glasgow to develop own practice in 2003. His works, complex and wry, are a curious mixture of ancient Indian painting tradition with allusions to classical and contemporary Western art.

His prints and paintings reflect his evolving prowess They bridge the gap between autobiography and fiction, presenting an otherness and alteration that cast shadows in the airy realm.

Chowdhury's introspective elements interact dynamically with the existing play with form, resulting in a complex and singular image-making that delves into the irreconcilable conflict of the human condition.

The choices made in his works question finalities of natural and illusionistic space, reinventing classical unity in a way that resonates with contemporary uncertainties. Barun Chowdhury lives and works in Baroda.
