Artists Profile

Bharti Prajapati
Initially trained as a textile designer at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, contemporary artist Bharti Prajapati gleaned endless inspiration from the women of Kutch she met in Gujarat This reflects in her works even today, with depictions of beautiful rural women in vibrant colour, dressed in fine jewellery, set against starkly contrasting subtle backdrops Bharti’s art expresses a deep appreciation for traditional Indian art, folklore and mythology, bringing them together in motion on canvas
Her decade long experience as a textile designer after her studies at NID and previously Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai, can be evidenced in the great attention to detail paid to the clothing worn by the women in her paintings Bharti, more often than not, paints in a collection of paintings - the Earth series being a stunning example filled with symbols pointing to the five elements of nature and her ever-present muses
Bharti has exhibited her works throughout India and the world including major cities like New York, Singapore and London She has also been awarded the Bharat Kala Ratna Award for her work
