Bhiva Punekar is a Mumbai-based contemporary Indian artist whose visual practice explores the dialogue between cosmic consciousness, spirituality, and the human form.

Born in Maharashtra in 1966, Bhiva Punekar pursued formal artistic training at Kalavishwa Mahavidyalaya Shantiniketan in Sangli before earning his Diploma in Art Education from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1992.

Working across oil, acrylic, ink, mixed media, and charcoal on canvas and paper, Bhiva Punekar is best known for his semi-abstract, meditative compositions. Rather than depicting orthodox religious iconography or literal mythological scenes, his paintings tap into esoteric concepts and tantric visual motifs, notably incorporating symbols like the lingam, the sahasrara chakra, and radiant energy nodes.

A signature hallmark of Bhiva Punekar’s visual language is the portrayal of human figures illuminated from within, blending soft, luminous gradients with broken geometric planes. This interplay between organic aura and structured geometry serves as a metaphor for the Brahmarandhra, representing the spiritual conduit uniting individual perception (kundalini shakti) with cosmic order (shiva).

Over several decades, Bhiva Punekar has exhibited extensively across India, including solo and group shows at institutions such as Mumbai's Jehangir Art Gallery, Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Habitat Centre New Delhi, and the India Art Festival. His work has received accolades from bodies including The Art Society of India and the Maharashtra State Government, establishing him as a notable contributor to contemporary Indian spiritual abstraction.
