Born in Kerala in 1960, artist CF John draws inspiration from nature After completing his studies in Philosophy, CF John chose to follow the age-old Gurukul tradition, receiving his artistic initiation under Jyothi Sahi at Silvepura, Bangalore
His artwork provides various pathways for extended journeys, transcending the visual realm and entering the physical, spanning different times, spaces, and eras simultaneously, contingent upon the viewer's readiness His creations exude a refreshing quality untouched by academic constraints His approach to art avoids canonical alienation and stems from a thought process rooted in his socio-cultural activism, refined and sensitively distilled to its essentials CF John takes pride in celebrating the uniqueness of the materials he employs in his paintings, utilising muted colour palettes, gentle textures, elegant compositions, and sporadic bursts of color to depict subjects in a meditative state Through his art, CF John endeavours to navigate the complexities of modern living, seeking tranquillity in nature and finding inspiration in those intimately connected to it
Notable exhibitions in his portfolio include a solo show at Alliance Française, Bangalore (1991); 'Celebrating Cultural Pluralities,' a workshop and exhibition of spiral painting at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore (1993); 'From the Nether, the ceaseless Dance,' a collective exhibition in Kochi, Kozhikode, and Kunnur (1993); 'Silence of Furies and Sorrows,' a workshop and exhibition of installations at Venkatappa Gallery, Bangalore (1995); a solo show in Mainz and Saarbrucken, Germany (1997) In addition, he has showcased his work alongside other artists in France and London, and has had exhibitions at the Indian Habitat Center and Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi
