Artists Profile

Ganesh Haloi
One of the earlier abstract artists from India Ganesh Haloi was born in Bangladesh in 1936 and shifted to Calcutta in 1950 post the partition The theme of displacement is very much evident in his works seen mostly in his close association with landscapes Haloi’s gouaches and watercolours are lyrical to look at, along with his symbols that add a certain depth to the story behind his works Dots, dashes and lines became cryptic signs for trees, water and the likes He has done several commissioned mosaic murals, and his sojourn at Ajanta lead him to publish a paper on the techniques upon which the magnificent murals were created in the journal ‘Art in Industry’ in 1964
