Ghanshyam Gupta
Born in 1969, Ghanshyam Gupta is a well-known painter, printmaker, and sculptor He completed his B F A in Painting from Government School of Art, Aurangabad in 1989 and M F A in printmaking from M S University of Baroda in 1993 He also holds individual degrees in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, London, and M S University of Baroda The themes in his body of work are based on love, fantasy, and his daily life experiences, capturing the essence of a mood and emotion His work embodies a synthesis of tradition and contemporary expression His use of colour is particularly notable, often creating a sense of harmony and balance Apart from painting he is proficient in stone carving, metal casting, and fibre moulding works and finds great pleasure in writing poetry to express his inner thoughts
He has received several fellowships, and scholarships, and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions His work was exhibited with eminent artists such as Lucian Freud, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, Edward Munch, Henri Matisse, Rembrandt, and Albert Durer at the London Original Print Fair held at the Royal Academy of Art, London in 1997 The artist has received several awards including the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, New Delhi in 1999; Nordsten Award for the Best Print of the Year from the London Original Print Association; Art Museum Award Winner, Tokyo International mini-print Triennial, Japan in 1998
