Gigi Scaria
Born in Kothanalloor, Kerala in 1973, the artist did her BFA (painting), College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, in 1995, and MFA (painting), Jamia Millia University, New Delhi, in 1998 Among her noteworthy solo shows are ‘Absence of an Architect’, video installations paintings and photographs at Palette Gallery New Delhi (2007); ‘Where are the Amerindians?’, Inter America Space at CCA7, Trinidad (2005); exhibition of recent works, Art Inc, Shahpur Jat, New Delhi (2001), and exhibition of paintings and sculptures at The Great Art Gallery, New Delhi (1998) Among her significant participations are ‘Reflections, Refractions and Refutations’, Soulflower Gallery, Bangkok (2007); ‘Public Places/Private Spaces’ at the Newark Museum, New Jersy, USA; ‘After Shock Conflict, Violence and Resolution in Contemporary Art’ at Vienna, Austria, and ‘Horn Please: Narratives in contemporary Indian Art’ at Kunstmuseam Bern, Switzerland She has served residency in 2005 at CCA7 (Caribbean Contemporary Arts), Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies Among the awards and scholarships she has won are Sanskriti Award in Visual Art (2005); Inlaks Scholarship (2002), and Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Scholarship for Visual Arts (1995-97) Gigi Scaria is not only a skillful painter, but also an expert practitioner of photography, Videos, sculptures, which reflect her spirit to experiment
