Indrajit Prasad
Born in 1976 in West Bengal Indrajit Prasad is a contemporary Indian Artist He received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in 2002 from Indira Kala Sangit University, Khairagarh, Chattisgarh He finished his Master’s in Fine Arts in 2004 from SN School of Fine Arts, University of Hyderabad His works often revolve around the duality of urban existence This is something he experiences first-hand considering the fact that he stays in Mumbai He also focuses on the environmental issues that we face in our daily lives This constant conflict between the need to preserve the environment and its destruction for its resources forms the central theme of his works He takes inspiration from various sources like Miniature paintings, Chinese landscape paintings as well as Japanese screen and woodcut printingIn 2003 he received a Cash Award from Tasmiya Art House, Karnataka He also received the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, USA in 2012 He has had two solo exhibitions namely ‘Eye on the World’ at Bombay Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2006 and ‘Man Made’ at Bombay Art Gallery in 2008 Some of his group exhibitions include 'Hommage to Matter', Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2009; 'Persistence', presented by The Osmosis Gallery, Mumbai at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2007 and '(Sub)Urban Texts', Gallery Espace, New Delhi, 2007 He has also been a visiting lecturer at Fine Art Department of Kurukshetra University and at IES College of Architecture, Mumbai The artist lives and works in Mumbai
