Jaideep Mehrotra
Jaideep Mehrotra is an Indian multi-disciplinary contemporary artist, born in 1954 His significance in the art world, especially over the last four decades, is colossal He is considered one of the finest inventive contemporary artists in the country Mehrotra created art with a profusion of mediums He has developed a unique style, incorporating surrealistic works in oils, acrylics, and cast resin sculptures He was just 13 when he exhibited his work for the first time Until 1983, he was involved in business and paintings simultaneously Afterward, he embraced painting as his whole and sole profession
Mehrotra has served as a jury member and panellist at various art events He is a trailblazer in the world of digital art He has created Giclee prints, site-specific installations, and video art Through his visual art, he has integrated different elements of history with the contemporary and tradition with the modern
The artist was the first Indian artist to have his website and his own interactive CD-ROM He painted a portrait of Maharani Gayatri Devi, which happened to be her last portrait painted before his death His works are featured in top publications like Elle Magazine, Reader's Digest, Hindustan Times, Verve, Times of India, etc inside and in some cases on the cover
Mehrotra had solo exhibitions at Chetna Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1967; Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1972; Taj Art Gallery (Mumbai) in 1976, 1983, 1986, and 1988; Max Mueller Bhavan (Mumbai) in 1985; Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai), The Gallery (Chennai), Gallery Espace (New Delhi) and Chitrakoot Gallery (Calcutta) in 1991; Taj Mahal Hotel, (New Delhi) in 1993; Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai) in 1995, 1998, 2004 and 2007; Cache' Gallery & Studio 51J (Mumbai) [Exhibitions of Giclee' Prints] Jehangir Art in 1997; "Spanish Impressions” (Mumbai) in 2002; Asian Civilization Museum – The Arts House (Singapore) in 2005; 1x1 Art Space (Dubai) in 2006; Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre (New Delhi) in 2009; 'Cognitivus' at Art Bahrain (Solo Booth, Bahrain) and Digital Works (launch of Good Homes Art Week, Mumbai) in 2015
