Janet Treloar is a leading British watercolourist who was born in 1940 in Helston West Cornwall She completed her formal education with a MA from Somerville College, Oxford Right after finishing her education she followed her husband due to his oil business and ended up travelling all over the world and in turn exhibited at various places during her journey When she was living in Columbia she studied for three years at the David Manzur Atelier She is a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and served as its Vice President for six years She has also been a part of the Chelsea Art SocietyHer works are usually a direct outcome of the place she got immersed with, a lot of her works are inspired by her own native place of West Cornwall with its rugged landscapes When she travelled to India in 2007 she returned to figurative works and her use of colour and light depicted the everyday scenes of India Apart from landscapes, she is also inspired by themes like the 'Romanesque Arch as a Language of Europe', the war sites of 'Russia’s Hero Cities', and the great poet Anna Akhmatova Her series of works on ‘Russia’s Hero Cities’ was first exhibited at the Russian Embassy in London in 2005 Her works on the poet Anna Akhmatova was first exhibited at Pushkin House, London in 2007 and her work on the Romanesque Arch as a Language of Europe was first exhibited at Piers Feetham Gallery, London in 2005 The artist divides her time between London and Cornwall
