Jatin Das
Indian painter, sculptor, and muralist- Jatin Das was born in 1941 His birthplace was Baripada Mayurbhanj, Odisha He pursued art at the Sir JJ School of Art, Bombay [1957-62], under the guidance of Professor SB Palsikar Henceforth, he participated in the art exhibition at the domestic and international levels
He has held more than 60 solo exhibitions His genre of work is oil, watercolour, ink, graphics, and conté His several works are installed in public places in the form of murals and sculptures He has built a large traditional art and craft collection over the last 35 years His works are exhibited at several important events, including the Biennales in Paris (1971), Venice (1978), and Documenta in Kessel (1975)
He is the recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2012; Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity Italian Government, Italian President Award, New Delhi, 2007; Bharat Nirman Award, 2007; Seminar Management Institution, Bhubaneswar 2007; Conferred the DLitt (Honoris Causa), The Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar, on 8 May 2007 and Utkala Awards by Bengal Governor, Kolkata, 2006
He has received the title of Professor Emeritus at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi He also served at the National School of Drama, National Institute of Design, and School of Planning and Architecture
The two books were published in his name, ‘The Art of Jatin Das’ by Shobita Punja and Poems by Jatin Das in 2003 and 1972, respectively
Jatin Das founded the ‘JD Centre of Art’ in Bhubaneswar, Orissa Architect B V Doshi has designed this art center The JD Centre of Art will remain a private, non-commercial institution celebrating the whole range of traditional and contemporary visual and plastic arts
