Julius Macwan
Julius Macwan was born in Mumbai in 1968 and received his Bachelor's degree in fine art from Sir JJ School of Art before moving to Chennai and establishing the Julius Macwan Institute of Fine Arts and Design in 1997
In 2004, he returned to Mumbai for his first solo exhibition, and he has since exhibited his work in solo and group shows across the country
Various group exhibitions Macwan participated in were "Manthan," organised by Nitanjali Art Gallery and held at Galerie Romain Rolland in New Delhi in 2009; "Kaleidoscope," held at Tradition Art in Mumbai in 2008; and Harsh Goneka's A-MAZ-ING, held at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2008, for which he created the "Pieta," a reference to Michelangelo's sculpture of the same name and the sole Macwan worked as an artist in residence at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, for a full year in 2007
His display, "The Death of Magic," debuted in 2008 at the Stainless Gallery in New Delhi Other solo exhibitions by the artist include "J," staged by Ashish Balram Nagpal Galleries at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, "The Hierophant - The Hip In Red And Mauve," at the Museum Gallery, Mumbai, "The Antithesis," staged by Apparao Gallery at Triveni Gallery, New Delhi, and "The Hermit," also staged by Apparao Galleries at Museum Gallery, Mumbai, all in 2004
The artist now lives and works in Mumbai
