K Khosa
Kashmiri Khosa was born in Lahore, Pakistan in February 1940 After the partition of India in 1947, his family shifted to New Delhi and he attended the Delhi Polytechnic now known as the Delhi College of Art in 1961
Khosa became an abstract artist while his father, Pandit Somnath Khosa, remained loyal to realistic art Unlike his father’s works, Kashmiri’s works are figurative abstract along with metaphysical themes
He employs inks, pencils, oils, and acrylics in his works He has participated in major national and international shows while being conferred the National Award by the Government of India in 1981 and the President of India’s silver plaque in 1974 His works have been showcased in prestigious art publications such as Temenos-13, London, and International Design Journal, Seoul, Korea His three decades' works were presented at an International seminar of The ‘Indira Gandhi National Centre of the Arts’ conducted in collaboration with the ‘Millennium Trust of Britain’ in 2004 He participated in the sixth Babylon International Festival of Art in Iraq, in 1994 He represented India in an international show of ‘Stitching White Cube global village’ in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany in 2014 as an artist He was invited to participate in Scope Miami Art (Voice of an artist) in Florida, USA, in 2015
He was fascinated by the idea of ancient Indian text and wanted its thoughts, philosophies, and wisdom to be translated into the modern visual language of fine art Therefore, he tried through his paintings to express not just momentary beauty but to trace the roots of our being in this modern material world
The documentary was made on his life and works which got aired on the National Channel of Door-darshan, DD World and the Prasar Bharti Channels in 2003-2004
His works can be divided into 3 decades, broadly The first decade [1975-85], includes instrumental colors and forms His conviction in art was to help mankind from the tyranny of transient emotions and set them free The second decade [1985-95], reflected his strong emotions and passions In the last decade [1995-2005], his works reflected that he was inspired by the Upanishad, 5 elements of ancient times, and Vedic hymns
His works are part of important collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Academy, Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi, International Airport Authority of India, the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Akademi as well as private collections around the globe
