Kshitindranath Majumdar
Kshitindranath Majumdar was born in the year 1891 in West Bengal After completing his schooling at Nimtita in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal In 1905, He joined the Government School of Art in Kolkata, where he studied under the guidance of Abanindranath Tagore 

He took inspiration from mythological and religious texts for most of his artworks The revivalist movement of Abanindranath Tagore’s impact can be seen in his art He was inspired greatly by Vaishnavism philosophy interpreted by Sri Chaitanya 

Often referred to as a saint-artist, he constituted art as a form of devotion He was also a trained singer and interpreted religious parables from Indian epics and Puranas In 1912, Kshitindranath Majumdar, along with Nandalal Bose, took over the onus of teaching at the Society which continued till 1930 At Santiniketan too, Majumdar engaged himself with teaching while implementing the artistic and aesthetic principles inherited from his mentor Following Abanindranath Tagore’s delicate, romantic style observed in his watercolour wash works, Majumdar invented accoutrements for his characters which had a similar treatment observed in the fresco art of Ajanta and Rajput paintings

He was an art teacher and later as principal of the school at the Society of Oriental Arts, Kolkata for 18 years and then he went to Allahabad University in 1942 as the president of the art department There he taught till his retirement in 1964 His artworks are implanted at many renowned places that include the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi; the Indian Museum, Kolkata; Allahabad Museum, Allahabad; Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow; Ronaldshay, London; Jane and Kito de Boer, Dubai, etc  
 
He was honoured with a doctoral degree at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and a merit award from the Bengal Congress Committee in 1963 

His works were showcased in multiple exhibitions, that include ‘Manifestations I and II’ at the World Trade Centre, and Delhi Art Gallery in 2003 and 2004; ‘Retrospective’ exhibition held at Varanasi and Kolkata in 1949 and 1963 respectively; Athene Gallery, Geneva, Switzerland in 1928; Indian Society of Oriental Art Exhibition, Madras in 1915-16; Travelling exhibitions in USA and Holland; Societe des Peintres Orientalistes Franoise, Grand Palais, Paris in 1914; Indian Society of Oriental Art, Allahabad in 1911; Indian Society of Oriental Art, Shimla in 1909; Indian Society of Oriental Art, Kolkata in 1908, etc 

In 1975, he passed away
