L N Tallur
An international contemporary artist of Indian origin, L N Tallur was born in a small village called Koteswara and studied art at various institutions His works reflect a mix of various themes ranging from the rural influences he had while growing up and those that he was exposed to and acquired while traversing across the globe
In 1996, he received his Bachelor’s degree in painting from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) at Mysore University, and then followed it with a Master’s degree in museology from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1998 In 1999, he was awarded a scholarship from Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK, to complete another Master’s degree in Contemporary Fine Art Practice During his time in London, he explored different mediums and styles including material manipulation and executing his works on a large scale
Tallur’s works mostly comprise sculptures, interactive work and site-specific installations As a conceptual artist, he uses these varied forms of artistic platforms to comment on the absurdities of the mundane life and limitless anxieties that go hand in hand in characterising contemporary society His incorporation of organic materials to implore this aspect often creates a correlation between traditional and contemporary customs
Tallur’s sculptures and installations have been exhibited internationally, including at solo exhibitions in Germany, South Korea, India, China, and the United States Selected group exhibitions include The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT7), Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia in 2012;Critical Mass: Contemporary Art from India, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel in 2011; Meditation: Asian Art Biennial, National Taiwan Museum, Taiwan in 2011; The Empire Strikes Back: Indian Art Today, Saatchi Gallery, UK in 2010 and La Route de la Soir, Tri Postal, France in 2010
Not only has L N Tallur’s works been exhibited all over the world The artist has also been a recipient of multiple prestigious awards
LN Tallur received the Skoda Prize for Indian Contemporary Art in 2012 and his work was featured at the first edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2012
