Artists Profile

artist
Manish Chavda
What sets Manish Chavda's art style apart is the meditative atmosphere in his works, the restrained and smooth brushwork, and profound engagement with colour. He completed his Diploma in Painting with Distinction in 2002, followed by an Art Teacher's Diploma in 2003. Chavda's artistic language is rooted in the expressive possibilities of colour. While his paintings often appear monochromatic at first glance, each canvas is built through countless layers of tonal variations that create remarkable depth and luminosity.

Common motifs found in his work include birds, flowers, trees, the moon and stars, which emerge gently from these expansive fields of colour, transforming familiar elements of nature into contemplative symbols. As time passed, the artist's exploration of colour has increasingly centred on white, which he regards not as an absence of colour but as a source of light, serenity and spiritual awakening. Through subtle gradations of white and muted hues, his paintings reflect silence, balance and an inward journey, inviting viewers to experience a sense of calm and introspection.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, Chavda has exhibited extensively across India, presenting more than seven solo exhibitions and participating in over forty group exhibitions in cities including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. He has also taken part in numerous artist camps nationwide. He has been honoured with awards such as the Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy Award and Scholarship, as well as the Shree Manekaba Silver Medal from Sheth C. N. Vidhyalay, Ahmedabad. In 2004, he received the prestigious award at the 112th All India Annual Art Exhibition organised by the Bombay Art Society, Mumbai. Presently, he lives and works in Jamnagar.
