Navjot Altaf
(b 1949)Navjot was born in 1949 in Meerut and moved to Mumbai in 1969 She studied at Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai and completed her diploma in 1972 She has exhibited in several international shows including the first international Biennale of Prints, Sao Paulo, 1986; `Intergrafik 87` Berlin; Festival of Indian Contemporary Art, Covent Garden, London 1988; `Expressions Women`s Cultural Festival in Mumbai 1990; `Bombay/Mumbai 1992–2001` in Century City: Art and Culture in the Modern Metropolis, Tate Modern, London; and the Eighth Havana Biennale, 1994Navjot has also initiated a site-oriented collaborative project with artists from the villages of Bastar, Chattisgarh, which culminated in collaborative exhibitions such as: Interventions/Interrogations: Collaboration as a Strategy in Indian Contemporary Art; Modes of Parallel Practice: Ways of World Making, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai; and the First Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale, Japan The artist lives and works in Mumbai
