Neena Singh
Born in 1962 in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, Neena Singh is a contemporary Indian artist She completed her MPhil and Phd in Sociology from JNU, Delhi and is a self-taught artist For Neena Singh painting largely acts as a cathartic process More than a need to get the colours and form right her works revolve around an urge to express emotions that can’t easily be described Her works are majorly abstract in nature They form a part of various important private and corporate collections including the The Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and Delhi College of ArtOver the years she has had over 10 solo exhibitions and participated in countless group shows Some of her solo exhibitions include ‘Serendipity’ Jehangir Art Gallery in 2006, ‘Osmosis’ Nehru Centre, Mumbai in 2009 and ‘Celestial Notations’ Jehangir Art Gallery in 2010 She exhibited at the 53rd and 54th National Exhibitions of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi In 2010 her painting titled ‘PEACE’ won an award at the International Exhibition and Competition held by Ukrainian Art Week She was also selected for the Silver award for the GZ-Art Basel Art Fair held in Switzerland in 2012 Her artwork ‘Living on the edge - A Face of Urban Poverty’ was the winner of the International Juried Art Competition in the year 2013 She was also invited to participate in The Art Fusion Show hosted by the Nehru Centre for three years in a row in 2011, 2012 and 2013 The artist currently lives and works in Mumbai
