Nikhil Biswas was born in 1930 He completed his diploma in Fine Arts from the Government college of Art and Craft, Kolkata He was the founder of the Calcutta Group of Painters and Society of Contemporary Artists During the abstractionist wave, Nikhil Biswas’s work was deeply influenced and represented his own thoughts and depicted with an unique abstractionist style The artist had his share of turbulence while dealing with reality, moods and his constant quest for the answers that questioned his existence His paintings depicted the struggle and turmoil he went through as to a point where he felt that dehumanization was the ultimate certainty of life, he began to think of it as a way of life The artist was an admirer or Michelangelo He was a firm believer of Christ, who remained his perceived symbol of humanity His existential crisis took him by surprise and was helpless but to depict the truth of life and morbid humanity in all his paintings He was a major entity in the development of contemplative abstract Indian art which he portrayed through his murals, this made him stand out Nikhil Biswas died in 1966
