Parvathi Nayar
Born in 1964, in New Delhi, Parvathi Nayar is a visual artist Her works range from videos, sculptures, paintings, photography, and text She completed her MA in Fine Art from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London, after receiving the Chevening Scholarship from the British government She graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Stella Maris College, Chennai, India
The artist explores the world around her through the prism of science and technology Her art engages with the environment, urban memory, and sustainability Water is another key theme in her works, an active source of the fauna and flora Parvathi Nayar is a founder-member of the art collective ‘The Hashtag#Collective’ She actively supports the emerging artists in the contemporary art scene in Chennai
Her works are part of eminent collections at the Singapore Art Museum, Sotheby's Institute of Art, The Australia India Institute, and more The artist installations were showcased at several venues like 'GenderFluid' with The Hashtag#Collective, Kochi (2018-2019); ‘Wave’ - trash art installation at Gallery Veda and Alliance Francaise She has also presented her works at several solo and group shows including Parvathi Nayar Online, a solo presentation by Gallery Veda, Chennai, Atlas of Re-Imaginings, curated by Lina Vincent, Gallery Veda; Cloak and Dagger, Zuzeum Art Centre, Rig, Latvia, amongst others
