Probir Gupta was born in 1960 in New Delhi He studied painting and murals at the Government College of Art & Crafts, Kolkata and continued his academics at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux's Arts in Paris His canvases are known for their grandeur in both size and narrative As a student of art in Kolkata during the Maoist uprising during the early 1970’s, he witnessed the routine acts of violence As a visual artist, his canvases appear to be grand historic accounts of instances captured in time with intricate details and thought provoking backgrounds Through his works he reorganizes history into a vision of turmoil where nothing or no one appears to take responsibility His works have always leaned towards political content and activism, this is apparent in his works, both on canvas and sculptural The artist lives and works in New Delhi
