Rahul Arya (b. 1971) graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Art, New Delhi. Recognised for his accomplished realist practice, Arya's paintings are distinguished by their sensitive treatment of light, texture, and the human figure, often transforming ordinary moments into quietly compelling visual narratives.

Through a dramatic use of chiaroscuro—the strong contrast between light and shadow—Arya heightens the emotional resonance of his compositions. Solitary figures, frequently clad in vibrant attire, are set against weathered architectural surfaces where shifting patterns of sunlight and shade evoke an atmosphere of contemplation and stillness. His nuanced handling of colour and texture lends his works both visual immediacy and psychological depth.

Arya's exceptional command of portraiture has earned him recognition in India and abroad. In 1997, he was honoured by the late President of India, Shankar Dayal Sharma, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Earlier, in 1995, his portrait of José Martí was presented by the Government of India as a diplomatic gift to Cuba and is now housed at the José Martí Study Center in Havana.
