Artists Profile

artist
Rakesh Kumar Gupta
Born in 1960, Rakesh Kumar Gupta has spent over four decades developing a visual language that is both personal and unmistakably modern. His paintings are instantly recognisable for their fragmented, sculptural figures, rendered through a dynamic interplay of vibrant colour, rhythmic forms and a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Balancing abstraction with figuration, Gupta transforms the human form into expressive compositions that reflect movement, emotion and introspection.

Gupta completed his Master's degree in Drawing and Painting and has dedicated himself to an independent artistic practice throughout his career. Since 1987, he has participated extensively in state, national and international exhibitions, steadily establishing himself as a significant voice in contemporary Indian art. A significant moment in his career came with his participation in the 8th Triennale-India, organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1994, one of the country's most prestigious international art exhibitions.

The artist has also received numerous honours, and the Sahitya Kala Parishad, AIFACS and Camlin have recognised his works. His works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Glenbarra Art Museum, and several prominent private collections across India and abroad.
