Artists Profile

artist
Ramesh Garjola
Born in 1979 in Andhra Pradesh, Ramesh Garjola creates intricate visual narratives that bridge mythology, memory and contemporary life. His paintings are immediately recognisable for their densely detailed surfaces, where every inch of the canvas is animated with elaborate motifs, miniature figures and decorative patterns. Drawing upon the rich traditions of Indian temple art, folk idioms and classical storytelling, Gorjala reimagines familiar myths through a unique modern lens, creating works that invite prolonged contemplation.

A self-taught artist, Gorjala developed his art practice by closely observing traditional temple murals and indigenous painting traditions of South India. While Gorjala has developed a highly distinctive visual language, he’s deeply inspired by the works of A. Ramachandran, alongside Laxma Goud and M F Husain. Their enduring engagement with Indian mythology, folk traditions and expressive figuration continues to resonate within his richly layered compositions. Recurring motifs in his oeuvre include deities, animals, and symbolic forms which are interwoven into layered narratives that celebrate India's cultural heritage while remaining very personal.

Gorjala has showcased his work in multiple exhibitions across India and internationally, earning recognition for his singular visual language and exceptional craftsmanship. His works are held in important private and institutional collections worldwide. His art reflects a profound engagement with history, spirituality, and craftsmanship, preserving centuries-old visual traditions while reinterpreting them for contemporary audiences.
