Rashid Rana
Born in 1968 in Lahore, Pakistan, the talented artist has made a name for himself on the international art scene in a short span of time Apart from studying at the National College of Art, Lahore, and receiving his MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Rashid Rana also took lessons in fashion design in Paris Among his selected solo shows are the ones at Nature Morte , New Delhi (2006); 'Identical Views', Philips Contemporary, Mumbai (2005); VM Gallery, Karachi, Pakistan and Nature Morte (2004); 'Non-Sense' , Rohtas Gallery, Islamabad, Pakistan (2000), and Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, NCA ,Lahore (2000) apart from his participation in several prestigious group exhibitions internationally Among the awards, grants and residencies he has won are HAT exchange program residency: Manchester Metropolitan University Manchester, UK (2006); International Artist of the Year Award in 2002-2003; SAVAC, and South Asian Visual Arts Collective, Toronto, Canada (2003) He has been on the Faculty at the School of Visual Arts, Beaconhouse National University In works, which suggest a simultaneous exploration of media and identity bound by a political edge, he satirizes pop culture The artist divides his time between Lahore and Toronto
