Rasik Raval
Rasik D Raval was born in Gujarat in the year in 1928 After completing his formal art academics from Sir JJ School of Art in 1949 the artist had to confront harsh realities due to lack of patronage His struggles included having to live and paint in extreme austerity It was art collector Farokh Mulla who discovered Rasik Raval’s potential and supported him by offering a place to stay and work at his residence The artist’s initial struggle resulted in him often working in isolation He experimented with rural motifs and established his own archetypical muse Like many great artists he envisioned to further the essence of India’s native motifs He conceived placid appearing elongated figures and rendered in simplistic flat, imagery Rasik D Raval was awarded the National award from the Bombay Art Society in 1952 He was also the recipient of honours by the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1955 & Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta in 1957 His artworks have been reproduced regularly and featured in publications such as the Illustrated Weekly of India, Marg Magazine & the Studio Magazine, London The artist’s works are part of numerable public and private collections, to name a few the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Chandigarh Museum and Glenbarra Museum, Japan The artist passed away in the year 1980
